Watches & Wonders 2020: Panerai Brand New

Watch inspired by the 70th anniversary of Luminor.

Every year, collectors and watch enthusiasts look forward to the Geneva Salon, which this spring was supposed to be held for the first time under a new name - Watches & Wonders. However, the coronavirus pandemic made adjustments, forcing the organizers of the exhibition to transfer the traditional meeting of watchmakers and retailers from offline to online.

Panerai presented new products, the creation of which was inspired by the 70th anniversary of the Luminor fluorescent composition, which revolutionized the watch world in the middle of the last century thanks to the outstanding readability of the readings in depth.

Panerai Luminor Marina DMLS Titanium

One of the most striking, despite the monochrome (sorry for the pun), the new model was the Luminor Marina DMLS, whose incredibly durable case is made of titanium using direct laser sintering of metals. This is an entirely futuristic 3D printing process in which titanium powder is fused layer by layer using a high-power fibre laser, resulting in a solid object. CarbotechTM carbon composite developed by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee research centre was used to make the bezel, crown and locking lever of the Safety Lock crown.

Luminor Marina Panerai Goldtech

Also, the Luminor Marina collection has been replenished with a new interpretation of precious metal with unique characteristics - an alloy of pink gold, obtained by a special formula. It is characterized by a high copper content (24%) in combination with platinum (0.4%) - this explains the saturated shade of the metal and the maximum level of its resistance to mechanical stress and oxidation.

Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa GMT

The Luminor Luna Rossa GMT watch has been launched in support of the Luna Rossa team in the 36th America Cup. Their status as official competition watches is emphasized by a special inscription on the dial and engraving on the back case. However, first of all, the genuinely innovative element of this model is the dial itself, which is covered with a thin layer of technical canvas used in the equipment of the single-hull yacht Luna Rossa AC75.

Panerai Luminor Marina Luminous Trilogy

The case of the Titanio DMLS model, or PAM1117, is made of satin titanium, which affects its weight: even with a strap, the watch weighs only 100 grams. As in the case of the model above, the body was manufactured using DMLS 3D printing technology.

The PAM1118 is presented in a 44-mm case made of Carbotech composite material, which the company has been using in its collections since 2015. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it consists of thin, superimposed layers of carbon fibre.

The case of the PAM1119 model, released in a limited number of 270 pieces, is created from a high-tech composite Fibratech, obtained from basalt fibres in conjunction with polymers with the addition of minerals. The matte, uneven texture, which is a feature of Fibratech, makes the look of the watch unique.
